"In 1933, the “million-dollar” indoor Portland (Oregon) Public Market opened on Front Street. As ambitious as this venture was, it was never quite as successful as the city’s smaller predecessors such as Central Public Market, which it intended to replace. The venture closed in 1944 and the colossal building eventually became the home of the Oregon Journal (Tom McCall Waterfront Park now occupies this space)." http://www.nutmeggerworkshop.com/
