No Escape: Dive Into a Black Hole (Infographic) by Karl Tate - When matter is compressed beyond a certain density, a black hole is created. It is called black because no light can escape from it. Some black holes are the tombstones of what were once massive stars. An enormous black hole is thought to lurk at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.
#QUASARS or quasi-stellar-objects, are the brightest objects in the universe. Quasars are typically more than 100 times brighter than the galaxies that host them. They are thought to be powered by supermassive black holes, some billions of times the mass of the Sun. When material gets close to them, quasars form an accretion disk around the black hole heating up to millions of degrees. It may be years before we actually know their purpose.
Quasars. Quasars: quasars qua·sar [kwey-zahr, -zer, -sahr, -ser] Show IPA noun Astronomy . one of over a thousand known extragalactic objects, starlike in appearance and having spectra with characteristically large redshifts, that are thought to be the most distant and most luminous objects in the universe. Also called quasi-stellar object.
Understanding the size of Earth in comparison to the rest of our solar system -- an amazing illustration to visualize the size and scale of our world!
