The dramatic silhouette of this evening coat combines references to 1830s sleeve styling and that of the 17th-century cavalier to great effect. The garment belonged to Barbara Cushing Mortimer "Babe" Paley, an American socialite known for her great sense of style. It may alternately be worn cinched at the waist with its matching belt.
