The Shining, 1980. This Stanley Kubrick film based on the horror novel by Stephen King stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd. The setting is the Overlook Hotel, and they are to be the resident caretakers over the winter. Knowing they will be snowed in, Nicholson's character is a writer who is looking forward to the solitude so he can write in peace. It seems the hotel has a dark past, and it surfaces after the family is snowed in.
