Eva never really wanted to be a mother; certainly not the mother of the unlovable boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students,...but why is he that way? Was he born evil, or was his upbringing to blame? A book which inspires fierce debate on 'nature vs nurture'
We Need To Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver. One of my absolute favourite books. Happily, the film is rather good too.
Amazing book, only half way through but I'm loving it! Might have to check the film out too once I've finished it.
Disturbing! I couldn't put it down once I started but my is it depressing! This would be excellent for a book club as there is so much to discuss and compare as to why Kevin is the way he is.
I found this very affecting. It really made me think and I wish I was in a book club so I could make everyone talk about it.
I never read books twice but I just watched the film so I have to.
We Need to Talk about Kevin....I just chose this for book club.
brilliant book terrible movie
my favorite book........
Great book...love this author!

As this book is set in Africa it has an africa vibe to it with the land and the animals all around also with a nature colour to it of yellow and green. I like the green block of colour at the top and bottom which splits the image up.
Game Control by Lionel Shriver. Eleanor Merritt, a do-gooding American family-planning worker, was drawn to Kenya to improve the lot of the poor. Unnervingly, she finds herself falling in love with the beguiling Calvin Piper despite, or perhaps because of, his misanthropic theories about population control and the future of the human race. Surely, Calvin whispers seductively in Eleanor's ear, if the poor are a responsibility they are also an imposition.
Game Control by Lionel Shriver.
Loved this book; the author describes American countryside in such a descriptive manner-couldn't put it down.

One Thousand White Women is the story of May Dodd and a colorful assembly of pioneer women who, under the auspices of the U.S. government, travel to the western prairies in 1875 to intermarry among the Cheyenne Indians. One of my favorite books. Our book club read it and we still talk about how good it is.
really good! what if we really did give 1,000 white women to the cheyenne indians to try to assimilate them into our culture? this is the fictional story of the lies told to native americans and the women who chose to take this adventure to earn their freedom.
One Thousand White Women is the story of May Dodd and a colorful assembly of pioneer women who, under the auspices of the U.S. government, travel to the western prairies in 1875 to intermarry among the Cheyenne Indians.....looks interesting, on my TO READ list!
One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd by Jim Fergus - historical fiction, the account of several "civilized" woman married to Cheyenne Indians (Chief Little Wolf) as part of a government program (General Grant) in the mid-800s in Nebraska territory. interesting, quick read - believable, draws you in, you won't want to put it down.
On my "To Read" list... Another pinner said: "Little known fact from our history... 1,000 "white women" traded for peace with native Americans... amazing story. Couldn't put it down.--sounds good."
April - One Thousand White Women- 3/12 - OK I found this very interesting and enjoyed it until the last chapter. That is 2 book club books in a row that were downers at the end :
The story of Mary Dodd who travels west in 1875 to marry a Cheyenne Indian. A good historical fiction book!
Historical fiction about a woman who chooses to live with the Native Americans (1875) in order to find her personal freedom.
1000 white women. My last book club book. Interesting!
My new fav author! Have read 4 of her books~all great!

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: Rebecca Skloot: So glad I read this. Great for a book club discussion.
One of the most informative and interesting books I have read in our book club. We should ALL know this story since this woman's cells helped to find so many vaccines and cures that have saved the people we love!
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - this is an amazing story and an amazing book. The author is a medical journalist. How cool is that?
Just started reading this book about Henrietta Lacks...better known for her HeLa cells...so far I can't put it down!
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Such an interesting book especially since I was a biology major and didn't know a thing about HeLa.
Henrietta Lacks was a poor African American farmer who died from a cruelly aggressive cancer. A sample of her cancerous tissue, turned out to provide one of the holy grails of mid-century biology, the HeLa cells. Meanwhile, Henrietta's family continued to live in poverty and frequently poor health. Their discovery decades later of the unknowing contribution of her cells left them full of pride and anger.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This is one of my very favorite books!

Wuthering Heights is one of my all time favorite stories. A dark tale of class warfare and love thrown away. Heathcliff at once compelling and handsome, dark and brooding.
Also high school read! My cousins favorite!!! Think she's kinda like Sandra Bullock on The Proposal she reads it frequently!
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Read this recently and it turned out to be a very intriguing book. It is amazing the jealousy and revenge or overreactions most characters express. It reveals that a lot of who you are depends on how you react to the difficulties you face growing up. It is really shocking the type of malevolent behavior produced after such passion. Good read.

Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos - July 2013. This was our December book for book club. Overall I would rate it a 3.5. The end what good, but there is too much un-edited rambling before getting there. Read, but don't bother buying it.

A dog whose story you want to know. And a main character who deserves a happy ending. Bought this at a thrift store. A very worthy purchase.
