Sam Cooke on the Ed Sullivan show, Dec 1957. - Born January 22, 1931 Clarksdale, Mississippi, U.S. Origin Chicago, Illinois, U.S. Died December 11, 1964 (aged 33) Los Angeles, California, U.S. of a gunshot wound to the torso
American rhythm and blues, soul, and pop singer Sam Cooke (1931 - 1964) performs on the CBS variety show 'Toast of the Town' as series empresario Ed Sullivan (1901 - 1974), looks on from the wings, December 1, 1957.
Tonight 11-3 in 1957: CBS-TV's Ed Sullivan Show accidentally cuts off Sam Cooke mid-song when "You Send Me" isn't given enough time at the end of tonight's show. Sullivan invites the singer back the next month to make up for it.
On December 11, 1964, Sam Cooke dies after being shot three times in the chest in Los Angeles. Cooke was shot by Bertha Franklin, a manager at the Hacienda Motel. Franklin claimed Cooke threatened her life after attempting to rape a woman who had checked into the motel just a few hours before. To this day, people are still suspicious of what really happened at the Hacienda Motel… Pictured: Sam Cooke appears on the Ed Sullivan show on Dec. 1, 1957.
Sam Cook, Born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, sang with the gospel group the Soul Stirrers before going on to land huge hits like "You Send Me," "Wonderful World," "Chain Gang" and "Twistin' the Night Away." Forging a link between soul and pop, he had a diverse repertoire that attracted both black and white audiences, and started his own record label and publishing company. Cooke died on December 11, 1964, in Los Angeles, California...

At Miami Beach press conference, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, George Harrison bug a fisheye camera. "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Music's Gold Bugs: The Beatles," The Saturday Evening Post. March 21, 1964.
A nice psychedelic effect (although this is early Beatles) I imagined an idea where a hand is holding a crystal ball and inside would be a fisheye photo of the band. Again this would be an inviting people to 'look into our world' type of idea. With the crystal ball, it would also be a bit mysterious and mystical, which I think ties in with the kind of image we're trying to make
What made the Beatles so popular among young people, and so misunderstood by adults?

Elvis Pressly, nicknamed the king, was a heartbreaker among the ladies. One of the first people to preform rock and roll, Elvis took music to a whole new level. He had crazy dance moves and hip thrusts that made the ladies swoon and a voice that could be heard in your dreams. By rebelling and doing what he believed in, he achieved infinite fame and fortune.

For all the stories that tell how Sullivan tried to censor acts, the bottom line is he brought rock music into America's living rooms at a time when it was considered risky. Bravo.

Ed Sullivan with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The Rolling Stone's fourth appearance You can just imagine this conversation...
THIS DAY IN ROCK HISTORY: January 15m 1967: Ed Sullivan won't allow the Rolling Stones to go on and perform "Let's Spend The Night Together" unless they clean up the lyrics. They do go on and Mick Jagger sings it as "Let's Spend Some Time Together" but makes faces at the camera mocking the censorship.

THIS DAY IN ROCK HISTORY: May 2, 1965: Ed Sullivan breaks a vow he made the year before and books The Rolling Stones back on his long-running CBS variety show -- but not before keeping the band in the studio all day, in order to keep from inciting the fans. The bands performs four songs: "The Last Time," "Little Red Rooster," "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love," and the instrumental "2120 South Michigan Avenue."
1967 in British music Events 15 January – The Rolling Stones appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. At Ed Sullivan's request, the band change the lyrics of "Let's Spend the Night Together" to "Let's spend some time together". 17 January - The Daily Mail newspaper reports 4,000 potholes in Blackburn, Lancashire; and Guinness heir Tara Brown is killed in a car accident. These articles inspire lyrics for The Beatles song "A Day in the Life".

The Beatles! I remember watching when The Beatles were on.....it was difficult to hear them sing the audience was so loud!
I was watching that night. I was 12 years old. The music of the Beatles just took me away. I fell for their music and them that night, and 50 years later, I feel the same way.
