Las Pozas ("the Pools") near Xilitla -- sculpture garden built by Edward James in tropical rain forest in mountains of Mexico. Over 80 acres of natural waterfalls & pools with towering Surrealist concrete sculptures. From 1949 - 1984, James built 36 concrete follies -- palaces, temples, pagodas, the Staircase to Heaven. Construction of Las Pozas cost more than $5M. In 2007, Las Pozas was bought for $2.2M; Fondo Xilitla was created to oversee preservation/restoration of site to its former glory.
