Author, existentialist and feminist, Simone de Beauvoir wrote novels, biographies and essays. Most well-known for The Second Sex, a social analysis of women's oppression, de Beauvoir's look contained a little bit of the unfiltered insouciance seen in the French fashion scene: jackets that were a bit too big, tattered purses and dresses verging on frumpy were paired with costume jewelry that resulted in an ironic form of ugly-chic in the best possible way.
