The Activity Mom: Number Towers... what an easy number recognition and ordering activity!
The Activity Mom: Number Towers...what an easy number recognition and ordering activity!!! For Second Grade, have bigger numbers. Maybe in a math center and have them out of order in a tower so that they have to put them in order then write them down on a worksheet/journal. All towers a different number tower, so when done with one they can switch. But they have to mix up the cups before they do so, so it's not already done. Especially when moving centers for the next group.
The Activity Mom: Number Towers number recognition and number order. Good idea for interventions, or math groups

LESSON 2--- I would love to take my students to the computer lab as part of my math lessons, or if the school I work at has ipads, have them use the ipads. This website provides online manipulatives for math. They are especially good for teaching geometry. For example, you can help them understand proofs with geometry. How does SSS or ASA or SAS prove triangles to be congruent? This website allows you to build the shapes, and see WHY the proofs work.
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) - great site for virtual manipulatives to use on the SmartBoard. While students work through problems the virtual manipulatives available from this library as well as from the add on math manipulatives package you can download for smart notebook are very useful. The students have access to any manipulatives should they choose to use them and it means they aren't limited to what is physically available in the classroom.
