The Kuvasz belongs to the working dog or guarding dogs group. The origins of this Eastern European breed date back almost 2000 years, and was developed among the Hungarian people. The Kuvasz was used for herding and guarding sheep and cattle, and is also called the Hungarian Sheepdog. On average a Kuvasz lives for 10 to 13 years.
