    The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred in the United States, over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of central Florida, at 11:39 a.m. EST on January 28, 1986. The Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated 73 seconds into its flight after an O-ring seal in its right solid rocket booster (SRB) failed at liftoff.

    Space Shuttle Launch - feel sad that the shuttle program is gone, but enjoyed watching many launches from my back porch on a clear day. Sadly that included the Challenger.
