King Henry VIII. You won't hear me say too many good things about this chap, but I do have to say that God used him to bring about one of the most important events in history: the English Reformation.

Henry VIII at age 45, just about a year after the previous portrait and around the time he had Anne Boleyn executed. (There seems to me to be a huge difference in Henry's demeanor when compared to the portrait made during his marriage. I often wonder what happened to him to change him so much...) He also married his third wife, Jane Seymour, at this time.

Holbein sketch of Henry VIII. The US was founded as an extension of the United Kingdom....thus the United States. Don't let the revolution fool you. All US presidents have had blood ties to the royal family ( save 1)- Clinton being one of them. Bill Gates is also related. See new world order.

King Henry VIII by Hans Holbein the Younger, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Henry was the second monarch of the House of Tudor, succeeding his father, Henry VII.

In the year 1536, Henry VIII had three wives and lost two sons. Katherine of Aragon dies on 07 January; Anne Boleyn is beheaded on 19 May; one unnamed son by miscarriage (Anne Boleyn) on 29 January (same day as Katherine of Aragon's funeral); Henry Fitzroy dies on 23 July and he marries Jane Seymour on 30 May.

After Henry took his dead brother Arthur's bride the foundations were laid for one of the most spectacular reigns in English history. He was the perfect Renaissance prince, but his first wife Katherine of Aragon's failure to produce a male heir brought out his darker side and led to his dismantling of the established church in England. By the time of his death, he had married six times.
