Sarah's Key #sarahskey A great WWII book from the point of view of a jewish child living in France, and a present day journalist researching WWII.
Such an amazing book. Sarahs Key - She closed the door on the little white face, turned the key in the lock. Then she slipped the key into her pocket. The lock was hidden by a pivoting device shaped like a light switch. It was impossible to see the outline of the cupboard in the paneling of the wall. Yes, he’d be safe there. She was sure of it. The girl murmured his name and laid her palm flat on the wooden panel. “I’ll come back for you later. I promise.” -From Sarah’s Key, page 9-

Today is my first Book Club Friday! I am hoping to get in the swing of reading again and I am sure I will find some great suggestions over at Blonde...Undercover Blonde's link up. The last book that I read was Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. I picked it up on the way to get a pedicure to have something to read and the main reason I settled on it was that it is a historical novel. The main story is fictional but the events that occurred are factual. I loved the book and I was unable to put it down once I started. It is the first book that I have read since becoming a mother and I saw what a different light I view things from. If you read it, you will see why. I also see that I must have been under a rock somehow missed the fact that it has been made into a movie. Here is an overview from Barnes & Noble: Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten-year-old girl, is taken with her parents by the French police as they go door to door arresting Jewish families in the middle of the night. Desperate to protect her younger brother, Sarah locks him in a bedroom cupboard—their secret hiding place—and promises to come back for him as soon as they are released. Sixty Years Later: Sarah’s story intertwines with that of Julia Jarmond, an American journalist investigating the roundup. In her research, Julia stumbles onto a trail of secrets that link her to Sarah, and to questions about her own future. In Sarah’s Key, Tatiana de Rosnay offers up a mesmerizing story in which a tragic past unfolds, the present is torn apart, and the future is irrevocably altered. And here are some reviews: “This is a remarkable historical novel, a book which brings to light a disturbing and deliberately hidden aspect of French behavior towards Jews during World War II. Like Sophie's Choice, it's a book that impresses itself upon one's heart and soul forever.” –Naomi Ragen, author of The Saturday Wife and The Covenant “Sarah's Key unlocks the star crossed, heart thumping story of an American journalist in Paris and the 60-year-old secret that could destroy her marriage. This book will stay on your mind long after it's back on the shelf.” –Risa Miller, author of Welcome to Heavenly Heights I hope that if you pick it up you love it also! If you are looking for something new to read, or have a book review yourself, hop on over to Book Club Friday and link up!

I've read this. Amazing book. The incredible story of Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor. I highly recommend this book.
Night- Elie Wiesel- the authors account of survival in a Nazi Concentration camp. Haunting...history is doomed to repeat itself if we don't remember.
Night an amazing autobiography of his time in the concentration camps in Europe. He was a guest on Oprah and he spoke softly. He toured Auschwitz death camp with Oprah and pointed out areas where he had been. This is a MUST read for anyone who is facinated with WW2 history.
Night by Elie Wiesel- documents his experience with his father in the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald
"Night" — A memoir written by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. A terrifying account of the Nazi death camp horror that turns a young Jewish boy into an agonized witness to the death of his family, the death of his innocence and the death of his God. Penetrating and powerful, "Night" awakens the shocking memory of evil at its absolute and carries with it the unforgettable message that this horror must never be allowed to happen again.
An autobiographical account from a survivor of Nazi death camps. One of my favorite books...

Amazing Book. read it in high school.
Night is a sobering and heartbreaking book written by holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel. In the book he recounts the story of he and his family being taken and sent to concentration camps during Hitler's reign in World War II. From her small, sunny hometown between the beautiful Carpathian Mountains and the blue Danube River, Elli Friedmann was taken-at a time when most girls are growing up, having boyfriends and embarking upon the adventure of life-and thrown into the murderous hell of Hitler's Final Solution. When Elli emerged from Auschwitz and Dachau just over a year later, she was fourteen. She looked like a sixty-year-old. This account of horrifyingly brutal inhumanity-and dogged survival - is Elli's true story.

Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum FAVORITE BOOK!
Those Who Save Us [a Novel] (Book Club Kit) : Blum, Jenna : For fifty years, Anna Schlemmer has refused to talk about her life in Germany during World War II. Her daughter, Trudy, was only three when she and her mother were liberated by an American soldier and went to live with him in Minnesota. Trudy's sole evidence of the past is an old photograph: a family portrait showing Anna, Trudy, and a Nazi officer, the Obersturmfuhrer of Buchenwald. Driven by the guilt of her heritage, Trudy, now a professor of German history, begins investigating the past and finally unearths the dramatic and heartbreaking truth of her mother's life. Combining a passionate, doomed love story, a vivid evocation of life during the war, and a poignant mother/daughter drama, Those Who Save Us is a profound exploration of what we endure to survive and the legacy of shame.
