    Students practice spelling each others names...could do with sight words too!

    Color code the stages of writing to give the kids something tangible to work towards. Also great as a self-assessment tool for the kiddos!

    One student reads a word while two other students race to try to smack the bug with the corresponding word. Could do with math problems as well.

    Debbie Diller on Word Walls.... 1. Make a border or grid for the letters/words. Based on research, the brain sees in borders. 2. Make vowels and consonants different colours. 3. Add a picture for the beginning sound of the letter. 4. Make the words on the word wall black and white. Words are easier to see and it is a common colour for words in print.

    these are sight word pointers and are great for finding sight words in books. The children choose a pointer and look for that word as they read. I printed the words on colored cardstock stars and taped them to straws. They've lasted a couple of years!
