Losing 5 Pounds of Bloat - Jillian Michael's Recipe for Losing 5 Pounds in 7 Days I've said it before and I'll say it again: if it looks healthy and it promises a weight loss, I try it :) I pinned this Jillian Michael's 7 day bloat loss detox about a month ago and I just finished my 7 days. I liked this idea because it didn't really require you to change your meal habits or anything. It just simply says to add this 60 ounces of tea to your daily routine every day for 7 days. This recipe calls for: 60 oz of purified water 2 tablespoon's lemon juice 1 tablespoon sugar free cranberry juice 1 dandelion root tea bag When I went shopping for the tea bags and cranberry juice, I encountered a problem. I could not find sugar free cranberry juice anywhere! I saw lots of no sugar added, but nothing sugar free. I finally ended up talking to a juice guru at my local natural foods market. The guru explained that cranberry juice will never truly be sugar free, being that cranberries contain natural sugars. Needless to say, I felt so dumb, but the recipe does call for SUGAR FREE. I got the lowest in sugar I could find - organic, pure cranberry juice. Here is exactly what I used: Here is what my tea looked like: The taste is quite bitter, but I didn't mind it. I drink unsweetened tea all the time and this didn't taste much different, to me. The website that my pin originated from is no longer there, but here is a you tube video of Jillian explaining this process. Also, here is a thread from myfitnesspal.com regarding other people's experiences. I really liked this "detox" process. It was not difficult to follow, didn't taste bad and I got results. I didn't lose 5 pounds, I lost just slightly under 4 pounds. For me, that's great! I know that since it's water weight it will most likely come back, but I do feel good about this cleanse. While researching and reading through other people's results, one thing I noticed people talking about was the additional water they drank during this process. Most of the people who did this and got great results said they drank the tea in addition to their average daily water intake. I really drank very little other than the tea. Needless to say drinking the 60 oz of tea per day had me running to the little girl's room an awful lot. I'm sure if I drank the usual 8 glasses of water per day along with the 60 oz of tea, my results may have been better. Either way, I am pleased with my results. Reply Catherine St. ClairFebruary 16, 2013 at 7:30 AM A note about fluids: 60 oz is a LOT to push. An additional 8 glasses of water may cause electrolyte loss. You need electrolytes in order for your body fluids to flow, from the cellular level on up to organ function. Too much fluid flushing can have dire effects on the body (especially during menstruation, when your hormones are effectively wiping you out) (not to be all scary, but it's true)! Which is funny because you're always told to drinkdrinkdrink water every day. I'm with you, Dana, the tea would definitely be enough for me. Trust your body when it's telling you you've had enough. I know you had results with 60 ounces, but perhaps 16 would work just as well and not be as hard to finish. I have learned as a rule of thumb, you should take your body weight and divide by 2 to get the total number of oz of water your body needs in a day. Drink the 60oz of tea then add on the difference your body still needs for water. While herbs are a good alternative to drugs, that doesn't mean it's harmless. Too much could have adverse effects over a long period of time. This is also why nursing moms need to do some research on this and see if dandelion root comes through their milk and how safe is it for the baby. Concentrate is not good for you. It actually causes weight gain. You can use any antioxident juice. What you should look for is pure juice. We buy pure blueberry juice at the farmers market. Looked all over for dandelion tea (no Target :( ) I did find a tea at Walmart called Detox Tea which has Dandelion Root in it so I use this. Also instead of buying cranberry juice I just boiled up some cranberries in water and then pressed the juice out. It doesn't take that much for one batch. Figured it was healthier then bottled that is many times just flavored apple juice. I also have added a few drops of liquid Stevia to it to help with taste. It is extremely tart as the natural "sugars" are not sweet like most of us are used to. As usual, organic is best when cleansing or detoxing. The root is more concentrated than the leaves, but they are the same plant so overall, you'd get a similar effect. You might need to double to teabags if you can only find leaf tea. Nursing moms shouldn't use it because it can dry you up. That is, unless you're like me and have enough milk to feed the entire neighborhood. Sigh. Distilled water? No. Bottled (labeled purified)water or filtered with a britta (for ex.) is best. Tap water, not so much, but still better than distilled. Save distilled water for using in machines that you don't want mineral build-up in (c-pap/humidifier/etc). If you boil the water to make the tea it will be stronger, but cold works fine. It just takes a little longer. Fred Meyer in the NW carries it as well as New Seasons, Whole Foods, and Market of Choice. You'll want to look in their like 'specialty' area where they keep the organic, gluten-free, sugar-free, etc. products. Also, I noticed one person substituted Diet Cranberry Juice. Just a heads-up, that most likely will not work the same. Most Diet Juice isn't real juice because the natural juice of the cranberry has more calories than they want in a diet drink, therefore the organic is a better way to go. Today is the first day I started this drink, I live in Buffalo, NY and found the exact listed items she posted a picture of at Wegmans :) Coming from someone with a sweet tooth, I actually hate the taste. It just tastes like watered down unsweetened tea -_- kinda bland.. I've already drank more than half and have noticed more bathroom visits lol I am a gym/fitness rat and am using this as a quick de-bloat fix. I typically drink 3 liters of water a day, and have replaced much of my water with this.. but as soon as I am done with this drink (I aim to have it all gone by 5pm) I'll continue to drink water especially at the gym.
