Poem by Kate Makkai. A question nearly every woman, every little girl has - will I be pretty? I'm not opposed to pretty. I love makeup. I love clothing, and HUGELY GAUDY vintage earrings. But there is much more to me than my appearance, and I don't need to look "flawless". I'm flawed. It's cool. I don't need products to "fix" my complexion. It's fine. I don't need my lips plumped, or my lines erased. My appearance is in no way indicative of my worth. ~Ricrac ♥

Nick Hanauer's TED talk on income inequality and why 'trickle down' economics is bogus - "We became enthralled with the view that wealth trickled down from the top and that if you poured money into rich people, sort of like an ingredient, prosperity and jobs would squirt out of them like donuts."
We went through the archives and dug up some old footage that sheds some interesting light on Nick Hanauer's TED talk...
You Know That TED Talk You Weren't Supposed To See? Here It Is. Nick Hanauer, self-described "super-rich" entrepreneur, gave a pretty compelling TED Talk about how the middle class—not the super-rich—are the real job creators. But TED thought this video was too partisan and chose not to release it. We didn't notice any flaming partisanship in it. Under pressure from the Internet, TED finally relented and released the video. Watch it and decide for yourself.

Barney nodded once and I moved to the ladder. Then I was on the first rung. “You don’t have to be a hero, Batgirl. It’s a long way down. Come straight back up at any time or tug the rope and I’ll pull you up.” I started down, gripping the ladder so hard my hands began to hurt. I tried to relax. It was down and back up, nothing more. ~ from The Beautiful Bones
"Women are not perpetrating widespread violence against one another or against men -- in homes or in war. And yet, whenever I go to meetings, seminars or schools to discuss this topic, I enter rooms full of women. This is...frustrating. This is why I think tomorrow should be called International 'Where are the Men?' Day. I know many men believe in equality, some are activists and allies for change. Sexual assault. Not romance.

“It wasn’t my choice to be kissed. The guy just came over and grabbed!” “I did not see him approaching, and before I knew it, I was in this vice grip. [sic]“ “You don’t forget this guy grabbing you.” “That man was very strong. I wasn’t kissing him. He was kissing me.”
How ironic is it that one of our country's most iconic and "romantic" pictures is actually of a man forcing himself on a woman...
Rape culture...once I read the real account of this photo and looked at the photo again, it became clear that this was not the sweet & romantic moment I had once thought it to be.
Sexual assault. Not romance. Arguably one of the most iconic photos in history yet it is never seen as what it is, assault
Interesting. Such an iconic picture that pictures romance is actually a picture of sexual assault.
I always thought this picture was cute and heart warming until I found out the truth..........
"It says a lot about our culture that this image of sexual assault has been held up as an iconic representation of romance. Even without knowing the situation in which the photo was taken,* her body language (posture & arms/hands in original photo) & his vice-grip left arm show she is not a willing participant. The fact that there are Photoshopped versions edited to move her arms to make it look like she's hugging him back proves people DID see a problem... but ignored the evidence of assault.
Sexual assault. Not romance. - The truth behind an iconic photo.
