Back To School DIY: Melted Crayons on Canvas

Back to school was always full of excitement. Getting new school supplies was one of my favorite things in the world, and I often wish it was still a yearly tradition! This DIY gets pretty close, though, and is a really simple way to make a festive and colorful piece of art.

Great art for kids room that THEY can do. Hair dryer, crayons, canvas. Done.

Might try this with Mike's heat gun. Hair Dryer + Crayons = Art Fun idea for kids room art. Super easy... I have two suggestions: 1) don't put colors on the opposite side of the color wheel together... the melt together an turn brown (not so pretty) 2) If you have hairdryer attachment that focuses the air in one spot use it... it makes it easier to control the melting.

I always loved art projects like this when I was a kid... Melted crayon art - worth buying a hairdryer.

I absolutely love this idea. Doing it with different colors, turning the canvas. I'm thinking a trip to the craft store is in my near future. :) Kids art project {1. hotglue 64 crayons on canvas 2. hand over the hair dryer 3. Enjoy the rainbow} http://bit.ly/Hrb1lI

A boy in my class a couple years ago gave these as little Valentines made out of melted crayons. He said, "For Crayon Out Loud, Happy Valentine's Day"... could also say, "You COLOR my world!" Use silicone cups to melt them in. baha love it<--- so cute, I have to remember this for dusty!!

Different way of doing melted crayon art: Place crayons in a pattern or 'drawing' and then melt for more interesting shapes instead of the usual drip * need to do this with the kids *

OMG.....I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this!!!

The crayons are lined up along the edge and melted on a foam board using a heat gun. Specific heat is applied for the desired outcome of several defined drips. There is direct dripping from the crayon pieces that extends through the lower third of the board, with some drips extending all the way to the bottom. Wrappers are left on this piece to emphasized the melting of the crayons.

melted crayon art. Jordan tried doing this for a birthday present for me, but it didn't turn out as she had hoped. Now she can try again if she'd like.

such a lovely and beautiful project. I'm sure I'll be using that soon.

Rolled paper wall art. Such an interesting piece! you can make with your kids. I’m constantly amazed by artists who re-use common materials to create beautiful works of art. We are having a long holiday week ahead with public holidays next Tuesday to Thursday for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid ul-Fitr) and National Day celebrations.
