God is extremely Dangerous

We have forgotten that God is extremely dangerous. The old Church knew that. It was expressed in its symbols, which could be terribly shocking. For example, the rhinoceros is a symbol of God. Why? Because it is a very angry, bad- tempered, and dangerous animal. That’s what the Old Testament God was like: a wrathful, violent God, who threw the world into disorder and through the love of a pure virgin was forced to come to peace in her womb and was thus transformed into a God of love. ~Carl Jung
