This was a taste test in which a number of California wines were found by a panel of experts to be as good or better than their lauded French counterparts. Two Santa Cruz Mountains wines (Ridge’s 1971 Mont Bello Cabernet Sauvignon and a David Bruce 1973 Chardonnay) were among these world-beaters.
Picchetti Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 14.5%. Really jammy and yummy. Piccheti is a cute winery in Santa Cruz in the way to Ridge winery. It was mentioned in Wine Spectator magazine in the letters section as a place not to be missed and I must agree. Napa is great bit this is an intimate winery that produces delicious fermented grape juice :)
