Tropea beach by Gerald Claessens, via Flickr

I can't believe I'm actually saying this because it is such an amazing place, but......I have been there!!!

Tropea - Calabria, Italy - I stayed between Tropea and Capo Vaticano. Tropea is a lovely old town sitting on a hilltop with narrow winding streets. Below the town is a long stretch of golden beaches. Capo Vaticano is further down the coast and has spectacular scenery, golden beaches and emerald green seas - more of a resort area with many hotels, bars, restaurants etc.

I wouldn't really recommend the hotel i stayed in but i had looked at the Costa Azzurra at Capo Vaticano (hotelcostazzurra.com‎)and the Rocca Nettuno (roccanettuno.com‎) in Tropea - both of which i would have probably been better with. Calabria is a fascinating area of Italy, still relatively unspoilt (or it was then) with amazing scenery and friendly people.

Some roads are so beautiful that I wouldn't mind heavy traffic jams, like in Tropea, Italy... #travel #wanderlust #driving
