clean sponge in microwave While it may or may not have killed the germs on the sponge, the sponge still smells and now...so does my kitchen

    It was damp when I did it. People are better off putting them in the laundry or dishwasher.

    I haven't seen this pin but here's what I do: every 3-4 days AND immediately after cleaning up from raw poultry, I place my sponge in a small microwaveable bowl filled 2/3 with water and 3 sprays of Tilex mold and mildew cleaner... making sure to saturate the sponge in the water/beach mixture. microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds then let stand in the water for about 5 minutes. THE SPONGE WILL BE VERY HOT!!! run cold water in the bowl before removing the sponge!!! the boiling water/bleach combo not only keeps your sponge from getting moldy and smelly but disinfects it as well as saves $$$ by increasing the life of your sponge. I know I certainly can't afford to use a new sponge every couple days! hope this helps!

    Why not just use those little clothes that you can wash ? I personally think sponges are gross
