Fairmount Water Works is a landmark in Philadelphia. Water wheels, turbines and pumps were housed in a series of buildings that resemble Greek temples, and are located on the banks of the Schuylkill River. In the 19th century, the Water Works and its gardens was one of the top three most visited sites in North America. The Fairmount Water Works stopped pumping water in 1909. Today, it houses an interpretive education center with interactive exhibits and the Water Works Restaurant & Lounge.
