Japanese Crane in the Winter time - Nobles of Japan used to eat crane and turtles - two animals representing longevity. When the ban on commoners consuming crane was abolished, the animals were nearly wiped out. Few remain today and efforts to breed and release more into the wild continue.

Our lambs were always born in January-February when it was soooo cold. We didn't have heat in the barn and I remember waking up many winter mornings with baby lambs warming in a box beside the wood stove.
