"On the Rhine, Germany" in 1956 by Henri Cartier-Bresson (Chanteloup-en-Brie 1908 - Montjustin 2004). He was an early adopter of 35 mm format, and the master of candid photography. On 30 January 1953 an agreement was signed between France and Germany concerning permanent bridges and transit over the Rhine on the Franco-German frontier. The bridge was opened on August 1956. The frontier was set at the mid-point of the bridge: Germany owns the eastern half and France owns the western half.
