He finds the land and the girl he remembers to be changed by the war. This book is a bit depressing but a great historical fiction read. Lengthy but worth the number of pages. Liked the movie, too.

I read this many years ago not knowing what to expect. I had always thought of James Patterson as a murder mystery writer. Imagine my surprise when I read this book. I think I'm going to go read it again right now . . .
