How to Freeze Food in Canning Jars - if you're looking to stop using Ziplock freezer bags, this is pretty much the option, apparently (perhaps Pyrex containers with their plastic lids, as well). Big key is to leave room for expansion once liquids are frozen.

Store produce in mason jars in the fridge. Not only does it last longer (much longer!) But the inside of my fridge is much more colorful and eye catching!

use canning jars to freeze. I find that the "reuseable" plastic containers often break, so I am using this for my soups this year.

wide-mouth jars rather than jars that narrow at the top, particularly when freezing liquids or purees. Leave 1" of space below the lip in the jar&chill the jar and its contents until cold to the touch. When freezing in Pyrex or Corning type containers (I use the glass kind) the food and the containers must also be chilled. If either the food or glass is warm or you fill the jar too full, it will shatter when frozen, making it unsafe to eat.
