Black Madonna of Czestachowa. There are hundreds of Black Madonna paintings worldwide; most in Europe, but in America her celebrated, holy shrine is in Detroit, Michigan. Before slavery skin colour wasn't a social issue in the west. Christian Saints were equally shared among white people & black people; Historical religious art in Eastern Europe & Mid-East Churches portrayed biblical figures with tanned or dark complexion; the Western Churches adopted lighter skin colour after the Renaissance.
