Happy Halloween! A witch appears to be screaming out into space in this image from NASA. The infrared portrait shows the “Witch Head nebula,” named after its resemblance to the profile of a wicked witch. Astronomers say the billowy clouds of the nebula, where baby stars are brewing, are being lit up by massive stars. The Witch Head nebula is located in the Name A Star Live constellation Orion, just off the famous hunter's knee. Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech
Carina Nebula This huge picture of the Carina Nebula, one of the most dynamic, complex places we know of in the Milky Way, was created by stitching together 32 Hubble images and them with data from the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. Hubble's view of the nebula shows star birth in a new level of detail.

Carina Nebula that shows a region of star birth and death. The nebula contains at least a dozen brilliant stars that are 50 to 100 times the mass of our Sun. This is one of the largest panoramic images ever taken with Hubble Telescope (BusinessInsider 2012)
Just in from NASA, a spectacular image assembled from 48 frames taken by the Hubble Space Telescope of the Carina Nebula 7500 light-years away, which means we are seeing these stars as they were in 5500 BC — making this the oldest picture on Shorpy so far. The bright star at left is Eta Carinae, which can be seen throwing off two enormous lobes of gas prior to exploding — possibly in the next few thousand years, maybe tomorrow — as a titanic supernova.
Object Name: Carina Nebula, NGC 3372 Object Description: Emission Nebula in the Milky Way Galaxy In celebration of the 17th anniversary of the launch and deployment of NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, a team of astronomers is releasing one of the largest panoramic images ever taken with Hubble’s cameras. It is a 50-light-year-wide view of the central region of the Carina Nebula where a maelstrom of star birth – and death – is taking place.

The awesomeness of space. #Astronomy God is real!
We're definitely not alone in the Universe! In just a tiny area the Hubble Telescope can see over 10,000 Galaxies
A lesson in perspective… and some people might try to say that all these billions of billions of planets and galaxies that are out there are just a random act.. i think not !! God and all his marvellous creations are mind blowing... and it really puts things into perspective
Mind. Blown. God is awesome. Psalms 147:4-5 NLT - He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!

Mars Rover Opportunity sees its own shadow in the late afternoon on Mars. Photo Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/Cornell/Arizona State Univ.
In this undated image provided by NASA, Mars Rover Opportunity catches its own late-afternoon shadow in a view eastward across Endeavour Crater on Mars. The rover used a panoramic camera between about 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. local Mars time to record images taken through different filters and combined into this mosaic view. Most of the component images were recorded during the 2,888th Martian day, or sol, of Opportunity's work on Mars, which corresponds to March 9, 2012 on Earth. The view is presented in false color to make some differences between materials easier to see, such as the dark sandy ripples and dunes on the crater's distant floor. Opportunity has been studying the western rim of Endeavour Crater since arriving there in August 2011. (AP Photo/NASA/JPL-Caltech/Cornell/Arizona State University)
Its hard not to personify NASAs Mars rovers. Here, the rover Opportunity seems to peer out bravely into the great unknown Martian landscape. Opportunity used its panoramic camera to capture this view of Endeavour Crater on March 9, 2012 during the late afternoon (Mars time, of course). The rover has been exploring the western rim of Endeavour Crater since August 2011. The crater spans 14 miles (22 km) in diameter, about the size of Seattle.

30 Doradus is a vast star-forming factory, and this image is Hubble’s view of it. You’d never guess it’s located about 170,000 light years away, 25 times the distance to the Carina Nebula! 30 Dor is one of the largest stellar nurseries known, with some estimates of it having more than 100,000 stars inside. You see stars being born, stars dying, shock waves compressing material into filaments, and just crazy beauty everywhere you look.
Star Formation in the Tarantula Nebula: The largest, most violent star forming region known in the whole Local Group of galaxies lies in our neighboring galaxy the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The bright knot of stars within the Tarantula Nebula is called R136 & contains many of the most massive, hottest, & brightest stars known. This image is one of the largest mosaics ever created by observations of the Hubble Space Telescope & has revealed unprecedented details of the star forming region.

Moonset, An astronaut on the International Space Station has designed a 'tripod' for taking spectacular night-time pictures of Earth - quite a technical feat when you're on board an orbiting craft that moves at more than four miles a second. Andre Kuipers installed 'Nightpod' - a motorised camera that compensates for the hurtling speeds of the ISS, by tracking points on Earth's surface. The results are some of the most spectacular pictures ever taken from space.
