Oh! Hey! It's me! I still go here! Things got a little crazy over the last few months - taking classes on the weekends, changes at work, blah blah same old stuff everyone deals with and somehow manages to maintain a blog. I've also been caught up in all the stuff everyone else has been caught up in: Throwing plates at the TV and screaming out loud at Making a Murderer Crying my eyes out to Adele on repeat Sporting tacky sweaters all holiday season (shoutout to my husband for giving me a gift that combines 3 of my favorite things: tackiness, Christmas, and Drake). I know- how photogenic are we. Defending my opinion that Jenna Dewan-Tatum's performance was better than Channing's on Lip Sync Battle (Beyonce wins all obvi but I'm saying if it's just between Channing and Jenna) Purchased Power Ball tickets - FYI when I hit the jackpot I do not intend on telling anyone. We've all seen the E! True Hollywood Story about the lotto curse. And I also went on a tiny trip to CAPE TOWN with my friends (this trip deserves its own post, more later but for now enjoy pictures on Insta). Did a little healthy eating and a lot of holiday splurging (whoopsies #notsorry). Annnnd I signed up for a marathon. Yes, I have officially lost my mind or hit a quarter life crisis or something along those lines. Thankfully I obsessively combed Courtney's blog for everything I could possibly need to know about training - and btw I actually MET Courtney on the street a few weeks ago, I was starstruck! #Blogcrush This whole marathon thing has changed up my eating plans a little bit with the need for carb loading etc, so after a year (yes a YEAR!) of eating paleo we are adding pasta and rice into the ole meal plan. Random side note: I have never never been a pasta or rice eater. Everyone acts like this is just the craziest thing they've ever heard but it's true. So please do pass along any resources for good/healthy/carby recipes. Because this training has me hungry. as. a. hippo. Here's my meal plan for the week with a big emphasis on foods that yield lots of leftovers because this is my first week back from vacation and that sucks and no one wants to cook. At all. Also includes my reminders to add CARBS the night before and after my long runs - shoutout to my friend Petar for teaching me Carbs 101. Note: For the Chicken Broc Pasta Bake with Cauli Sauce I am replacing the cheese with this sauce. It's supes easy. Because *hi* lactose intolerance! Not doing cheese before a long run. The problem is that large portions are too many calories, too much fat, too much sugar and lead to many heart and weight diseases. Truth is, we're eating more than we need and more than we can exercise off. Fast food restaurants advertise their "Super-Sized" portions as something important to have. 1. Look at the poster in the classroom and fill out the attached form: Portion Distortion Worksheet 2. Serving sizes on food labels are really based on consumer surveys dating back to the late seventies - a far cry from food portions actually consumed nowadays... Are you unsure of what the whole "clean eating" concept is? No friends....clean eating does not mean you eat cupcakes while cleaning your house, or washing your food really good before eating it although those are both pretty funny. I tried to search a text book definition for you all, but decided I would give you my own definition instead. Basically, clean eating is eating things that have nutritional value. You know what they are and where they came from and your ancestors way back in the day probably could of ate the same thing. For example, when you look at the ingredients list on a package, you should be able to read the ingredients and there should be a limited number of them. If something called XXXred5instalollyponixheartattackian is on the ingredients, then you shouldn't be eating it. Also, High fructose corn syrup or even sugar in general shouldn't be the first ingredient! I like to think of the food I eat as "fuel for my body", and I think of my body as a car....the type of car if money was not a factor I would buy....like a nice new shiny Cadillac! To fuel your dream car would you use left over fuel drained from cars in the junkyard? I know I wouldn't! I would find the best gas possible for it, to keep it running good! It's the same for your body! You put the best fuel possible in your body to get the best results and performance. There are a set of principles to follow when you are clean eating. It took me about two weeks to get use to these principles, but now its part of my routine and has become habit! CLEAN EATING PRINCIPLES 1. Eat more- eat 5-6 small meals each day. 2. Eat breakfast every day, within an hour of rising. For me this is shakeology most mornings! 3. Eat a combination of lean protein & complex carbs at each meal. 4. Eat sufficient (2-3) servings of healthy fats every day. 5. Drink 2 to 3 liters of water each day. 6. Carry a cooler packed with clean foods each day. 7. Depend on fresh fruits & veggies for fiber, vitamins, nutrients enzymes. 8. Adhere to proper portion sizes. WHAT TO AVOID -Processed foods, particularly white flour, and sugar -Chemically charged foods. -Foods containing preservatives -Artificial foods such as processed cheese slices -Saturated and trans fats. -Sugar loaded beverages like soda and juice -Limit alcohol intake -all calorie-dense foods containing little or no nutritional value. -super sizing meals. One of my favorite things to do is to take foods that are not so clean such as pizza and wings, and to turn them into clean foods just by tweaking the ingredients!
