      Vacuum sealed salad jars? nifty way to keep it fresh

      Salad in a Jar. Wash. Cut bite sized. Salad spinner till dry. Pack as tightly as possible into mason jar*. Clean rim--nothing that will break seal. Flat lid. Vacuum-pack w/ wide-mouth attachment. GENTLY test seal. Screw on ring. Store in fridge. • 7-10 days heart of romaine • 13 spinach • 10 green-leaf lettuce •3-5-7 SEPARATE veggies--e.g., radish, carrot, g.pepper, r.onion, celery, mushroom, cucumber, BLANCHED broc/cauli *jar sizes: 32oz quart=meal, 16oz pint=side, 4oz jelly=SEPARATE veggies

    It turns out that this plant is poisonous, but not dangerous to humans. Instead, the seeds and other parts of the plant are pounded, pulped, or grated to release the poison and used to stun fish in freshwater streams.     This is another one that has both beauty and brains in that the root contains a wide range of proteins, enzymes, and amino acids, many of which have an anti-inflammatory effect.     Despite the fact that this flower attracts flies (for pollination) by emitting a smell like carrion, some inhabitants in southern Ethiopia eat it with prepared balls of sorghum, and note that it tastes relatively good and has no unpleasant side-effects when boiled and consumed.
