Lammas & corn: It was believed that the spirit of corn had to be preserved from one harvest to the next to ensure successful crops. When it came to cutting the very last sheaf, the harvester would do so with reverence, as this last one carried the spirit, and this is the one that was carefully woven into a corn dolly. This would be kept in a place of honour, till Imbolc rolled around and the grain would be planted with the rest of the crop to bring them to life once again.
Maple-Mustard Grilled Corn on the Cob with Bacon (though I'd obviously leave that out or use fakon, which rules) Dana--please tell me what the restaurant name is where we had corn like this???
