Vilhelm Hammershøi: Portrait of a Young Girl, 1885 "Hammershøi's portrait of his sister Anna was painted when the artist was 21. The Danish Royal Academy passed over the work when judging the 1885 Neuhausen Prize, and the omission prompted a furious backlash from fellow artists who saw considerable potential in the young painter's work."
Vilhelm Hammershoi was a visionary painter. He was the first in Europe to dig deep into the unfarity of the woman's condition in the society. His paintings are pure perfection. And yet pick 100 people in the street and 97 wouldn't even now he existed.
Dannish painter Vilhelm Hammershoi 'Interior: WIth Piano and Woman in Black, Strandgarde 30' (1901). Hammershoi's work strikes me as a beautiful mixture of Rembrandt, Hopper and the work of the monochrome painters. The subtelty of his paintings is just incredible.
