The Art of Hearing Heartbeats. Slow in the beginning but totally worth reading.

In One Person by John Irving. Straight author writing in the voice of a bisexual man with a cross dressing maternal grandfather and cross dressing homosexual absentee father. Attends private school with what seems to be a disproportionate number of homosexual classmates, has a relationship with the town's transsexual librarian. Something in the water, perhaps? This book read exactly as described. I appreciate Irving's sympathy to the LGBTQ community, but remain skeptical that he can truly relate to them. Wish I hadn't wasted my time reading this. I love Irving's earlier work, but he's turning into a fanciful old man.
A compelling novel of desire, secrecy, and sexual identity, In One Person is a story of unfulfilled love--tormented, funny, and affecting--and an impassioned embrace of our sexual differences. In One Person, selected by the editors of The New York Times Book Review as a notable book of 2012, is available at Queens Library. #books #libraries

The China Study: The longest running nutritional study in medical history shows that not only is a diet based in meat and dairy unnecessary for health- but actually harmful in excess.
This is totally amazing. Dr. Campbell makes a case for a plant-based diet and how the high protein diet of America is promoting cancer.
T. Colin Campbell's The China Study. Amazing book.

For the reading list - How to Be a Woman Writer Caitlin Moran believes most women who don't want to be called feminists don't really understand what feminism is. In her book How to Be a Woman, Moran poses these questions to women who are hesitant to identify as feminists: What part of liberation for women is not for you? Is it the freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man that you marry? The campaign for equal pay? Vogue by Madonna? Jeans? Did all that stuff just get on your nerves?

I just finished reading Steve Jobs' biography by Walter Isaacson. While I've always been a fan of so many of his products, I hardly knew anything about his career and private life. This book is not only interesting for people interested in Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and everything else, it is also a must-read for people interested in technology. It's worth reading if you want to find out, how iGod Steve Jobs really was, and I assure you, you will be surprised.

Maurice Sendak - (1928-2012) widely considered the most important children’s book artist of the 20th century, who wrenched the picture book out of the safe, sanitized world of the nursery and plunged it into the dark, terrifying and hauntingly beautiful recesses of the human psyche, died on Tuesday in Danbury, Conn. He was 83 and lived in Ridgefield, Conn.
