    Great idea: Class Data Chart

  • Marsha Smith

Class Data Wall - great idea. The kids add a sticker every time they get a 100% on their spelling tests. As you can see from the sticker chart, we went from less that 50% of the kids achieving a 100% to almost 100% once we started keeping track of the data! The other charts consist of Excel graphs made up of various pieces of classroom data. The post-it notes on the graphs are the students "thinking" in regards to the data. Love the idea of a data board!

Just wondering: what if you have a child with dyslexia or a learning disorder in writing? I'm afraid they will be obvious to their classmates and feel as though they are failing. Thank you!

I used to use a "star chart" for behavior modification. Had some rather difficult students. The received a star for listening, manners, participation, etc. If they received all 5 stars the received a star on the chart and could pick a treat from the treat bin. If they received a star 5 weeks in a row they earned a necklace or pin etc (it was all girls lol). It helped with behavior but.in the long run the kids who had behavior issues learned a sense of pride for behaving - listening participating etc. They learned more and all enjoyed class. Some parents were shocked by the improvement. Kids never wanted to leave class and move up because it was a safe, positive, loving and fun learning environment. Miss those kids!!!

Sarah's Reader Map...I LOVE this! A big hit with my kiddos last year!

This is a classroom helpers board, but I like the idea of using it as a home faith formation thing - each pocket is a category of prayer and each stick is a person you know and you can have a visual of who to pray for what (with elementary-aged kids). Maybe this would be overwhelming or maybe it would help visually organize your prayers. Just an idea...
