Andromeda Galaxy: nearest neighboring major galaxy to our "Milky Way Galaxy". Due to begin a collision with our Milky Way galaxy in about billion years, Andromeda is million light years away from Earth (at the speed of light).
That's a LOT of red. The Heart Nebula, IC lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is an emission nebula showing glowing gas and darker dust lanes.
IC the Hidden Galaxy, is positioned only above the plane of our Milky Way, so its light is heavily obscured & reddened by dust. It is 7 mly away but is not part of our Local Group of galaxies. Credit: Bruce Waddington id love to see this one day
Voyager 1 spacecraft's biggest moments are shown in this chart covering the last 36 years. Voyager 1 is almost 12 billion miles away now! and moving at miles per hour!Voyager 1 will be the first ever object we've sent outside our solar system.
