Raku vases - lovely colors on this pottery

  • Kym P.

Raku vases..Raku means "happiness through chance" and was first used in Japan in the 16th century. The modern process entails heating the pot in a gas kiln until red hot, quickly taking it from the kiln with tongs and placing it in metal trashcans full of newspaper and sawdust, and then putting the lid on to cut off oxygen. The quick cooling down creates beautiful colors and crackling. This process is often referred to as "instant age." Each piece is handmade and signed by the artist, Irene McCollam. All raku is one-of-a-kind and color, size and pattern will vary.

pottery is the best decoration for your living space. especially when it is hand made by you, or someone you know. personal art is the best, and in my opinion, only, art that completes the "home" feeling...
