I have had a couple people ask me for the recipe for my breakfast smoothie. So here you have it! (The secret is frozen fruit and no ice! This way it doesn’t get watery when the ice melts and the smoothie doesn’t separate.) It also will give you 3-4 servings of fruits! The official (and oh so tasty) ‘How Alexis Survives Breakfasts on WW’ smoothie recipe! The Basics: One cup almond milk - I prefer Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla.*** One banana 2-3 Splenda packets 6-8 frozen strawberries 1/3 cup frozen blueberries Or any other variation of frozen fruit. Sometimes I buy a medley bag of melon, pineapple, berries, etc. Just pay attention and make sure there is no sugar added! This adds unnecessary points. I often see sweetened raspberries but the organic brands aren’t sweetened. Put all of these ingredients in a blender and mix it up! I prefer my smoothies quite runny so I can drink them through a straw, but everyone has their preferences! I also like to use my immersion blender so I will put everything into the cup that came with it. Then I don’t need to dirty another glass and the immersion blender is MUCH easier to clean than the regular blender! The Variations: Sometimes I get bored of the regular smoothie so I will shake things up. Here are some of my favorites. Extracts! I love adding just a splash of flavor extract to add some depth to the flavors. My absolute favorite is almond extract but I also really love vanilla and coconut! Just be sure not to use too much as they are quite strong and will over power the drink. Cinnamon! I have read that cinnamon has a ton of great health benefits so I’ve been trying to add it into my diet as much as possible. So I have been adding just a shake into my smoothies in the morning. It doesn’t give much flavor, but I figure it doesn’t hurt! Spinach! Who couldn’t use an extra serving of veggies? I will throw a cup of spinach into the smoothie and you can’t even taste it! And the blueberries completely cover up the green color so its like its not even there. Bonus! PB2! (Or regular peanut butter) While the additions above don’t change the WW points of the smoothie, this one does. I will sometimes add in 2T of the dry PB2 for an additional 1PP and TONS of yummy flavor. I really like this with just bananas and strawberries. Or I will use two bananas and just peanut butter with a bit of ice. So delicious. Oats! I have realized that I don’t really like oatmeal all that much in the morning. Its a bit too heavy for me. But I really liked how the oatmeal made me stay full longer. So lately I have been tossing 3T of Quaker Oats into my smoothie in the morning. It adds 1PP and helps keep me full longer. Dark Cocoa! I often add a tablespoon of Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa to my smoothie for a yummy chocolate flavor without any additional points. My favorite combo is banana, strawberry, PB2 and dark cocoa. YUM! Chia seeds! I love adding chia seeds to my smoothie for a few reasons. They are a great source of omega 3s, antioxidants and really help keep me feeling full for longer. They don’t have any flavor but they have so many great benefits! So there you have it! Let me know if you have any great additions or suggestions that I should try. I’m always looking for new varieties! *** I know people that will use regular milk or soy milk instead. You really can do whatever you like. Even fruit juice would be great. But from a WW standpoint, almond milk is the best choice for me. For one cup its only 1PP! And I really like that it keeps me from having a massive sugar crash from all of the fruit. I definitely notice a difference when I use something else. I don’t really like unsweetened almond milk plain, but mixed in the smoothie, or in my coffee, its perfection!
