Pingualuit Crater, in the Ungava Peninsula of Quebec is a young impact crater, by geological standards estimated to be 1.4 million years old (Pleistocene). 2 miles across, Pingualuk Lake is one of the deepest lakes in North America (1,300 ft deep). and holds some of the purest fresh water in the world. The lake has no inlets or apparent outlets, so the water accumulates solely from rain and snow and is only lost through evaporation.

The supreme importance of caribou hunting for the Naskapi, Montagnais and Cree tribes of the Quebec-LabradorPeninsulais reflected in their ¾ caribou skin jackets. They wear these garments decorated with powerful symbols, the hunters hope to obtain that supernatural help that guarantees success on the hunt. Instruments of caribou bones were used to make the red, blue and brown designs on this Naskapi summer jacket.
