Piet Mondrian, Chrysanthemum, 1909 Really has anyone ever done a chrysanthemum justice like this. Mondrian is so very awesome.
Piet Mondrian Flowers Though he is best known for his clean shape, line paintings in primary colors, Mondrians work in these flower paintings link to his more prolific work in that both subjects are interested in the purest essence of nature. With the flowers he investigates the uniqueness of the natural forms. With his primary paintings he works only with the purest art elements, primary color and shape.

Piet Mondrian - Tableau I, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany. Not feeling at home in Holland, Piet Mondrian returned to Paris in 1919, where he had a book published, called Le Néo-Plasticisme, containing his essays written for De Stijl and it was translated in German in 1925. In Paris he had some more exhibitions, joined an art group, but perhaps most importantly, he met the American artist Harry Holtzman in Paris, in 1934 who would enable Mondrian to go to America.

Piet Mondrian - Upright Chrysanthemum, 1901. Het schilderij heeft alleen koude kleuren, als grijs/wit en een beetje zwart. De bloem is erg gedetailleerd met dunne kwaststreken. Het is realistisch geschilderd. Het heeft een centrale compositie.

De Stijl 1917 – 1931 De Stijl is based on the fundamental principle of the straight line, the square, and the rectangle, combined with a strong asymmetricality; the predominant use of pure primary colors with black and white; and the relationship between positive and negative elements in an arrangement of non-objective forms and lines.

I think with fashion, it is always good every once in a while to step outside your comfort zone and have some fun and possibly even feel a little strange. I am loving the clean simplicity of color blocking, and I really decided to take it back to basics with PRIMARY colors! Red, blue, yellow... with the accents of the negative colors of black and white. My inspiration was Piet Mondriaan, (later Mondrian), the Dutch artist. I have been keenly interested in his works since I was a kid. Last winter we traveled to Den Haag (The Hague) to visit the Geemente Museum particularly on an art excursion and there was an amazing exhibit on Mondriaan, Picasso and Cezanne. It was totally inspiring and very insightful. I finally came to understand the concept of his minimalism. We should talk art some day! Do you see nature in this? "Victory-Boogie-Woogie"... the most expensive piece the Geemente Museum has ever purchased... it was HUGE. and very cool! I really admired Mondrian for being a part of the Cubism movement, but it didn't suit him, so he came up with his own artistic style he called "Neo-Plasticism." He would reduce everything, including nature to the bare minimum: White background, a grid of only horizontal and vertical lines, black, yellow, red, and blue. The sky, for example would be a black grid on white, with a spot of blue here and there. It makes sense to me! So here is my interpretation: feelin kinda "Joanie" Mad Men in my red midi skirt. Leap! there was a bee by me! hahaha! These pictures are goofy and crazy, but it was fun to wear such bright, basic colors! I used my seatbelt bag because it made me think of the Mondrian grids. My HUSBAND... on first glance... told me I looked like a beach ball! Think of it what you will! What I wore: Thrifted vintage red skirt. Blue tee, yellow cardi. Black flats from payless. Seatbelt bag. Wayfarers from Nordstroms. Bangles are a mix of old, vintage, etc. I don't want to leave Europe yet! I love the Dutch!!!! I will be back! xoxo... Vanessa
