You could probably do this with a jelly roll (in color and in white) - sew two long strips together, cut them to make square blocks, and piece the square blocks together alternating horizontal and vertical orientations to get the zigzag effect.

A cardigan of this type would be simple and easy enough, but this image can serve merely as knitspiration, as there is no knitting pattern to be found...
