Measuring with pumpkins- This is for a K class, but makes me think of all the ways I could have my 6th grades measure things...

I used this with the pumpkin paper plate. Create a pumpkin shape template and place two of them together leaving the top part open. Attach yarn to the open section. Attach the yarn down the middle of these pieces so that they can be inserted inside the pumpkin to retell the life cycle.

This "All About Pumpkins" Mini Unit is such a fun way to welcome fall into your classroom! This resource is full of engaging, fun activities to help your students understand the life cycle of pumpkins. They will investigate pumpkins using their five senses, learn pumpkin-themed vocabulary, sequence pictures and sentences about the pumpkin life cycle, and write about pumpkins using descriptive words! Great for grades 1-3 #pumpkinunit #pumpkins #allaboutpumpkins #fall

    Sharing Kindergarten: Pumpkin Patch Activities

This is exactly like an activity we created for our unit on plants. To start learning how to measure items, you can measure various objects in the classroom with nonstandard units, such as apples or pumpkins. You can discuss the relative sizes of the plants or crops to decide which would be best to measure a human, a desk, etc.

pumpkin math I do a whole week of this stuff every year in October. SO fun! I'll miss it this year. Maybe we can write about our pumpkins instead

anchor chart pumpkins. I love this idea for a classroom, you can have the chart up for all of fall and refer to the words used to describe the outside and inside for writing activities. This Pumpkin investigation provides math and reading opportunities. The bottom portion gives the kids ownership over the chart and doing it as a class after reading a fun linked book would give the same feelings.
