Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art. “Founded in 1963, the ICA has earned an international reputation among contemporary art museums. Guerilla Girls- Do women have to get naked...poster, 1989. The Guerrilla Girls are an anonymous group of feminist artists who call themselves the “conscience of the art world.” Their work primarily addresses the sexism in art history, usually dealing with direct statistics that they’ve found. This is their best known piece.
I <3 the Guerrilla Girls (an anonymous group of female artists and feminists devoted to fighting sexism and racism within the art world internationally. The group formed in New York City in 1985 with the mission of bringing gender and racial inequality within the fine arts to light.)
Do women have to be naked to get into U.S. Museums?, based on Ingres's Grande Odalisque (1995) Guerrilla Girls (culture Jamming)
Guerilla Girls Do women have to be naked to get into U.S. museums? This is one of four posters we made for the project "Public Viewing" organized by Littman Kulturprojeket, Basel/Switzerland. Posters were placed on sandwich boards and carried around the Shanghai Contemporary 07 New International Contemporary Art Fair in September.
The Guerilla Girls did great work in shedding light on some tough facts about women artists being under-represented in- or excluded entirely from- museums, galleries and art history books.
"Do women have to be naked to get into U.S. museums? Less than 3% of the artists in the Met. Museum are women, but 83% of the nudes are female." -Guerrilla Girls | (I support either including more female artists or adding more male nudes!)
Guerrilla Girls, a feminist group whose goal to get more female artists into museums.
This is valid question. I want to see a Gorilla Girl REVIVAL!!!!

Like everything which lies in the dark, human beings and things start a kind of drift similar to dreaming, a dream or a nightmare, which, from ecstasy to fear, opens the door to this fourth dimension, in which, maybe without really believing in it, I always lived. It is all this that undoubtedly drove me to photography.” (Pierre Jahan) (thanks to / via: silfarione)
