    A 1950s suburban dream home.

Another important shift in 1950s house design in the U.S. was the trend toward integral garages. Americans were automotive crazy. By the end of the decade, 80% of population had at least 1 vehicle. 15% of American homes had 2 or more. To keep up with this new, auto-centric world, attached garages became commonplace in suburban subdivisions throughout the United States in the middle to late 1950s.
