Keep Calm Glitter Jar: Use Glitter to Settle Kids Down

  • Rosamond

We checked in at Chasing the Firefly after seeing Madge's neat project on Pinterest. To help her children keep calm she filleda canning jar with glitter glue, water and...more glitter. The idea is that when the jar is shaken, the child is to sit and watch the glitter settle and when it has then they can resume whatever they are doing. Think of it as a cool time out or possibly an early intervention. Read more at Chasing the Firefly.

Calm Down Bottle. Shake the bottle and have the child sit and watch until the glitter settles. She gives a recipe to make the consistency right for it to take about 5 minutes to settle.

Fill each bottle with about 3/4 full with hot water, an entire bottle of glitter glue and a small tube of ultra fine glitter.  Play with the mixture for setting time - more clear gel glue to make it go slower or more water to make it settle faster.  Super glue the lid on.

Hush Bottles: the calm down solution- Fill a bottle with 3/4 water, one bottle of glitter glue, & ultra fine glitter. Then send this bottle with your child to timeout and they can watch it settle to calm them. Once the glitter is settled their time is up!

How to make a calming jar - better instructions than others

Mix water with Elmer's glue and brush the inside of the mason jars. Add glitter of your choice to the inside of the jars, and roll/spin the jar around until the glitter coats the sides. Let dry and add a tea light! Great outdoor light...
