The theory: Stones painted as strawberries when put around strawberry plants in the spring will keep birds from eating your berries because by the time the real berries ripen the birds have become conditioned to think the ripened berries are stones. I'm going to try this next spring; The children will love painting stone berries! (Click through for a detailed painting tutorial.) it would be super cute to scatter them in the garden even if the theory doesn't work!!

"Stones painted as strawberries when put around strawberry plants in the will keep birds from eating your real berries because the birds will think the ripened berries are stones. The birds try to eat them (stones) before the real berries are there. Then, when the real berries are there, most of the local birds will not eat the berries, they have tried but failed with the stones!" #strawberries #stones #kitchengarden We love Gardening. http://www.meinhaushalt.at

Ripening Blueberries...was going to place these under healthy food, but the color won out.

Blueberries are perennial flowering plants with indigo-colored berries in the section Cyanococcus within the genus Vaccinium (a genus which also includes cranberries and bilberries). Species in the section Cyanococcus are the most common fruits sold as "blueberries" and are native to North America (commercially cultivated highbush blueberries were not introduced into Europe until the 1930s).
