Toni perm. When people did them at home. All that time spent having mom wind each section of hair into one of those uncomfortable rollers and the pulling when it clicked closed.
The Toni Home Perm was a torture box for little girls. I remember my mother gave me a Toni perm one year just before school pictures were taken - I have proof of my "afro" hairdo because my hair was nothing but a frizz ball the next day - and boy did they stink!!!
Toni home perm stunk up the whole house. Every year when school started M Mom would have a lady cut my hair and I got a toni perm. BL
Toni perm..I remember covering my face with a towel while mom squirted on the solution...some wold always run into the ear..it was cold...and smelled really really bad...sometimes I would use the perm on Mom's hair
Toni perms...I had MANY of these! OMG - I used to stare at the pics on the box while my mom permed my hair!!

In fact, I’m lucky to live near a place where these are still being used – the Drive-In movie theater. The antique looking speakers are still in position at one of the few drive-in theaters we have left in Minnesota.
