Every month or two, give the pipes a good preventative cleaning to keep them clear of grease, oil, and hair clogs. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain, followed by 1/2 cup white vinegar. Let mixture foam and stand for a few minutes to dissolve fatty acids, and then pour boiling water down the drain to wash out any clogs.
Do this! Not that! Using vinegar, Dawn, and baking soda instead of those name brand cleaners. The clogged drain trick works better if you bring the vinegar to a boil before pouring in the baking soda filled drain :) - Candie

Sage (or any other herb) scented cleaner. 1 part vinegar, 1 part isopropyl alcohol, 1 part warm water, 1 drop dish soap, and fresh sage leaves! Or lemon peel, mint, basil, orange peel, essential oils, whatever floats your boat! Only stays fresh smelling for about a week, so make a bottle before a cleaning spree and use it all up!
