Memoirs of a first grader First Grade Wow! I bought this book last year and love that someone has put together a unit for it!!!!

I have become obsessed with this site!!! There are over 150 digital books! ALL FREE!

Pinned this last night and spent the afternoon making one with my 9 year old daughter. It turned out so cute. She learned about similes and metaphors and now I have a sample for my class next year!

"Sick" by Shel Silverstein.  If you're not familiar with it, a little girl lists off all the things that are wrong with her... two pages worth! :)  She obviously can't go to school! But wait! It's Saturday?  And she''s off to play! :)  My class looooved that poem.  We decided to write another list poem, this time using the same idea as Silverstein, but with "OUCH!" as our focus. We brainstormed all the things we could think of that would make us say ouch

She used spiral notebooks as topic journals that the whole class could contribute to. So, for example, in the "Ouch!" notebook, everyone would write about and/or respond to what others had written about a time they got hurt. Kind of like a blog... but not on the computer! One child writes in a notebook during a session. They can choose any journal that interests them!
