Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day. Along with the corned beef and cabbage and the wearing of the green, a great way to commemorate the life of this popular saint with our children is to say the Breastplate of St. Patrick prayer. This is also called the Lorica of St. Patrick. The entire prayer (or hymn) is pretty long, especially for young children. So you can also just do the most well know verse, which starts “Christ with me, Christ before me, …”
Sept 14 we celebrate The Elevation of the Lord's Venerable and Life-Giving Cross. After Christ, Roman emperors covered the holy places so people would forget. In 326, Holy Emperor Constantine sent his mother, Holy Empress Helen, to find the Lord's Cross. Under a temple of Venus they found the Lord's Tomb, 3 crosses, a board with the inscription ordered by Pilate, and 4 nails that had pierced the Lord’s Body. Patriarch Macarius touched a corpse with each Cross; the Lord's resurrected him.
