Gripping. Especially enjoyable if you've ever lived in London.

I've been reading a fair bit of Boyd lately, and this, set in modern London, is one of his most gripping. Very violent in parts, there's a plausibility about it that kept me reading past bedtime - despite the slightly clunky implausibility of the plot that strains credulousness at time. But good characterisation and strong internal coherence overcomes that to form a cracking read.
